17.0 WESTERN AFGHANISTAN
17.1 UZBEKH RULE
1507-1510 Muhammad Shaybani: descends on Northern Afghanistan and takes Herat. Killed by Shah Ismael.
1580-1597 Abdala II: Reconquests Herat, Meshhed and other Korasan cities.
17.2 SAFAVIDS PERSIAN SHAHS
1510-1524 Shah Ismael: founds the Safavid Dynasty in 1500 in Persia, formally establishing Shi'ism. Defeats the Uzbekis, kills Shaybani and conquests Korasan. Rules most of Afghanistan west of the Hindu Kush.
1524-1576 Shah Tahmasp I (son): continuing battles with the Uzbekis.
1576-1577 Shah Ismael II (son)
1578-1587 Mohammad Khudabanda (brother)
1587-1629 Abbas I : Retake Korasan from the Uzbekis in 1597. Takes Kandahar from the Moguls (? date)
1629-1642 Safi (nephew):
1647-1667 Abbas II (son): Holds the Eastern Part of the Empire against the incursions Moguls.
1667-1694 Soliman (son):
1694-1722 Hussain (son): Loses Kandahar to independence uprisings in 1709, Herat in1716 and the Savafid Empire in 1722 to the Afghan Hotaki Khans. Abdicates 1722 after defeat.
